Henry Crawford Clements Omeath Stn
stephclemgray
I am trying to find out more about my ancestor Henry Clements who was Leading boatman at Omeath Station. He was stationed there from 1903 to 1913 and then ( for one year ) at Morriscastle. Either side he was in the Navy and fought at the Battle of Jutland in HMS Barham. His son was born in 1910 in Omeath but I can find no record of this. Any information about him or his wife Daisy and son Henry or about his job and the station would be gratefully received. He died age 44 following the Battle of Jutland and is burried in Dover, Kent, England.

According to the 1911 Irish Census - Henry was born in England not in Omeath so perhaps you should check the England births records - there are a number of possible matches.

Hi Stephen

I don't know whether you have found it on the site, but there are extracts from the 1901 & 1911 Census'. You have to be logged on, and then click on the 'Downloads' tag at the head of the page to view them, scroll down to the book for Louth and then just download the file.

From this I see that Henry and Daisy had been married for 14 years, and were from England, Henry was their only surviving child of three.

Using this info I checked and found the marriage of Henry to Daisy Edith Gilchrist in the Oct-Dec Qtr. (Vol 2, page 1924) at Eastry, Kent. A further check of the 1891 census has Daisy (born Walmer) living at home with her North Sea Pilot father (Andrew) and family.

I'm not sure if this adds anything new to what you already know, but its the best I can do!

I've just had another thought. Given Bpa comment that Henry jnr was born in England, it would be well worth downloading the ADM 175/82A file from the National Archives. If Henry Snr is there it should also record the sex and dates of birth for any children, this could help narrow down your search for Henry jnrs Birth Certificate.

Many thanks to bpa and crimea1854. Have now managed to find the cottages in which the coastguards lived and am now searching in the English records. There is no break in his service record at the time of the birth of his son so maybe his wife went to family in England for the birth?
