Does anyone know where I can get information about a serving or deceased member of the service after 1862. I am particularly trying to find my 4 x Great Grandad John Nicholls born 14th July 1815 in Flushing Cornwall. Stationed in Ireland and I have followed his career with the help of this website to Drogheda 1844, but after that I know not where. I have tried the ADM at Kew but can only get as far as 1844.

Hi Robert If you go back to your original post you will see that I traced him to 1861 in ADM 175/39. This is the start of the Ships' Establishment Books for the Kingstown District. On the assumption that he remained in this same district, you should be able to trace his career up to 1879, assuming he has not left the service before this date. So start with ADM 175/39, then 40 and so on to 45. The advantage of the Ships' EBs is that they are generally indexed at the back with the man's name. Martin |
