I am looking for any info re: Stewart or Steward Wilson. He is listed on my GGrandfather's marriage cert. as having Coastguard as an occupation. This marriage took place in St. Ives, Cornwall. Any help or direction greatly appreciated I forgot to say that this marriage took place on May 31,1859 and he was 20 years old at the time My E-mail address is verielv@mac.com or verielv@sbcglobal.net DON WILSON in MI,USA Edited by verielv on 21/04/2008 03:29 |

Hi Don You are quite fortunate in that the Census Records for Cornwall have been transcribed, and are accessible online at Genuki for free! I did a search of the 1861 Census and came up with only one possible, a Stuart Wilson 22, Mariner, born St Ives Cornwall. He was married to a Mary Wilson 36, born St Ives; she had a daughter from a previous marriage, Mary Potter 7, born St Ives, and a son James Wilson 3w - they were living at 71 Teetotal Row (love the name!) From a search of the 1871 census it is possible that Stuart had died, because the census has Mary A Wilson 46 as the 'Head', and is now a charwoman. Mary A Potter is now described as being 15 and a chargirl, and James Wilson 10 is a scholar. If you have the marriage certificate you will be able to confirm if this is the correct man. I have gone no further in a search of other census years - I will leave this to you. Regards Martin Edited by crimea1854 on 24/04/2008 07:53 |

Don I note from the 'last seen users' window that you have visited the Forum a number of times since I posted the above reply. Since you have left no comments, do I assume that I was completely off the mark, and that you are no further forward? Martin |

Dear Martin: Sorry I did'nt get back to you sooner. You were right on. My GGfather was apparently lost at sea shortly after my Gfather was born. What I was hoping for was a hit on his father since he was listed as a Coastguardsman on the cert. I have never been able to find any Stewart Wilson ( son or father ) in any postings anywhere. I was hoping to get a hit here that would lead to a birth place or date or death place or date for either of them. Thanks again for your effort. DON WILSON IN HOWELL MI. |
