Id be very grateful of any information anyone has regarding Josiah Browning , my great grandfather and his family . I have many postcards i saved from a bonfire years ago , that include the social history of the families life at Coast guard stations around Ireland . Including "The Band of Hope" ? A photograph of men in uniform but , no idea of who they are . Best wishes Jane Browning |

Jane welcome to the Forum. It would be helpful if you could provide a little more information about your man and where I might have been stationed. A date and place of birth would be a good starting point. According to the National Archives records there were two Josiah Brownings who have service records ,one born in 1865 the other in 1890. After doing a little digging I'm inclined to believe the first is your man, since the Census has him as a Coastguard, but I would not mind betting the second is a family member. I believe the Band of Hope was a temperance society orginally founded in Leeds.. Martin Edited by crimea1854 on 12/06/2015 16:04 |
