Hi...wondering if anyone can help me in finding out more about the history of the Coastguard Station at Tyrella, Co Down. It has a Watch House and a terrace of 7 coastguard cottages. I have references to the Terela Station in 1821 and the awards of merit to various officers and boatmen from the Tyrella station in the 19th century. There is a full list of the Coastguards and their families in 1901, but no mention of them in 1911 census. I have lived in one of the Coastguard Cottages all my life and would love to know the history of the station. Where could I find out more about when the station was built, decommissioned and its maritime history as an operational station? I have found this site to be so helpful and interesting. Barbara |
