Hello and thank you for such for this super interesting website. I am the great grandson of Denis Buckley of Kinsale who I believe was in charge of the lighthouses along the coast near Bantry. I believe he had four children: Susan, Philomena, Gertrude and Jeremiah. With a strong interest in my heritage i would be grateful if any person could shed light on my great grand father. Thank you for looking HMB HMB

Hello. I do have a mention of a Dennis Buckley in Ireland from 1894 - 1904 at Dunmore, Co.Waterford and Baltimore Co.Cork. However he was a British Coastguard Station Officer. Our site is primarilybased on Coastguard activity in the 32 counties of Ireland. The Coastguard service and the lighthouse service had no connection with each other. Irish Lights employed keepers with families who sometimes had accom modation nearby. The British Admiralty Coastguards departed from Ireland in 1922. The Irish Lights Company continues to maintain Lighthouses (automatically controlled) in the 32 Counties of ireland Regards Tony Daly Merged on 24/05/2014 16:57:46: Hello Seven years ago there was an enquiry re Denis Buckley Coastguard Officer. His photo is in our Photo Galleries on site. Tony Daly Edited by Tony on 24/05/2014 16:57 |

Hello Tony and thank you for a swift response. I must admit I am a little confused and unaware of the differences. According to my grand father, DB was a comodore in the Britsih Navy but was injured and pensioned off and given coastal duties. Possibly that would link him to the British Admiralty? I have just looked at the photograph and it is really interesting. Would you have any suggestions of how to find out more? Thank you Howard HMB

Howard Based on the information you have given these may be the service records of your man (link below). If I were you I would purchase the ADM 188 record first, as this will confirm if this man became a Coastguard, and if it is, the ADM 139 record, which covers service prior to 1873. http://discovery....nts=Refine Martin Edited by crimea1854 on 25/05/2014 07:04 |
