Hi, I am trying to find information about HMS Valiant. My Great Grandfather, Edward Willcocks served on this ship in Ireland in 1875 when it was a Royal Navy ship, acting as a coastguard ship. He left the navy in 1876 and joined the Irish Coastguard. His service record shows him still on the Valiant between the years 1876 and when he retired in 1883. However, a previous post on this forum states that the Valiant was de-commissioned from the Royal Navy in 1877 in Devonport Plymouth. Does anybody know if the ship was subsequently used by the Coastguard after the de- commissioning? |
