I am interested in my family history and would like any information on my paternal grandfather who was coastguard at Dover during the first world war until he transferred to Skegness at an unknown date. Name : Arthur Hollingshead Wife : Annie Two sons : Winston (known as Vic) and Lesley Unfortunately both Arthur and Annie died before I was born and I do not have more information on them Joan Jones |

Joan welcome to the Forum. The National Archives has only one service record for a Arthur Hollingshead, so I'm assuming this is your Grandfather. If so this can be downloaded for a small fee (£3.36). While it will contain his full service history it will not have any family information, but it does provide his place and date of birth. http://discovery....image1.y=7 If I'm right, then he took a more active roll during WW1 than as a Coastguard, being awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals, which were sent to HMS Repulse. In addition he is also on the medal roll for the Africa General Service Medal with the clasp for Somaliland 1902-04 while serving on HMS Highflyer. Martin |
