Hi there, I am trying to find more information on my g. grandfather John Costello. He was born around 1828 and was received into the coastguards by doing exams in London UK in 1852 (I have the copies of the paperwork from National Archives at Kew in London). I am not able to find out any further information other than he had a daughter Maria Bertha Costelo no Birth certificate but in 1881 she was on the census stating that she was born in Hockley, Birmingham UK. She married William Brooks in 1882. I have found a death certificate of a John Costelo on 9th September 1789 in Tuam Co. Galway which is where he was also born. I do not know if this is the correct death certificate but it is possible that it is the correct one as Maria Bertha stated that he was deceased at the time of her marriage. I would very much appreciate any help or suggestions that you have please Cheers Jen |

Welcome to the Forum Jen. When you say you have his paperwork from the National Archives, can you be a little more specific? I've checked the CG Nomination Books and cannot find a John Costello entering around 1852, and if his daughter was born in Birmingham, you would have difficulty getting further from the sea in England!
