Hi I have just discovered after lots of research that my 4x Great grandfather John Hayes was from Tipperary. Unfortunately I don't know where about! He was a Coastguard/HM Customs Officer from 1841-1881 (I think). He was born in 1811 married in abt 1836 to Margaret Raffaty from Limerick and I only discovered he was from Tipperary when asking on a the cheshire websites about census data. I had the family from 1841,51,61,81,91 as living in Devon, Hoylake here in Wirral and Birkenhead also in Wirral. I am assuming his work brought him here from Ireland. My question is: Are there any records that will indicate where about John Hayes came from so I can research further. It would have to have been about 1836/37 that he came here as his eldest son was born in Stoke Dameral, Devon in 1837. I cannot find a marriage record here in the U.K so far! Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Regards Mike Hayes Edited by mikelmouse on 15/11/2007 20:49 |
