I'm trying to trace Isaac MILLER who was a Coastguard in Devon then Ireland. His wife Mary Ann, gave birth to my Gx2 Grandmother, Mary Anne in 1841 while they were in Beer, Devon. She was baptised in the Parish of Seaton and Beer, Devon on 20 June 1841. Mary Anne MILLER (22), of Dunny Cove married Alexander Saunderson (26) of Common Mountain in Kilgarriff in County Cork on 4th April 1864. Isaac and Mary Anne were living in Clonakelty and Dunny Cove. |

Welcome to the Forum. Isaac Wakely Miller was nominated to the CG Service in 1833 with a first posting to Westbrook on 3 October (ADM 175/78 pdf 56 Nom. No. 4486). At the time he was married, with both he and his wife giving Chideock as their place of birth. I found a Dorset family history website that gives their marriage as 23 August 1831, and that his wifes name was Mary Ann Barns. The following were his subsequent postings: 8 July 1836 to Shingle End (ADM 175/6 pdf 108) 1 Feb 1837 to Beer (175/6 pdf 396) 26 Aug 1837 promoted to Commissioned Boatman, remaining at same station. 22 June 1842 to Shorne Cliff (175/6 pdf 138) 13 July 1843 to Littlestones (175/6 pdf 154) 15 Feb 1844 to Dunny Cove Discharged 31 May 1865 (175/20 pdf 106) At the time of the 1841 census he listed the following children: John (6), Robert (Wakely) (5), Thomas (3), Samuel (2) and Ann (7 days). I did find a Bap. entry for Chideock that shows he returned to the Parish on 8 January 1837 for the Bapt. of Robert Wakely. For the details on susequent census' I would refer you to the GENUKI wesite: http://www.genuki...s/M-O.html He looks to have moved to Lincolnshire possibly to be near his son Samuel, who in 1881 was Mate on the 'Bradford'. There is a death entry for Isaac in the BDM Index for Caistor, Lincolnshire Apr-Jun Quarter 1882, Vol 7a, page 378. Finally I found an entry for an Isaac Miller born Chideock, in BT 114 (Index of Seamans Tickets) Ticket No. 74.107, but was unable to find the actual ticket in BT 113. This may or may not be him, but if you were at the National Archives it might be worth looking up. Martin Edited by crimea1854 on 29/08/2012 07:31 |
