Hi everybody This man is my great gt grandfather. William Hanstey or Marshall was in Alemouth Northumberland from 1811 - 1818 He was certainly in Alemouth in 1816 when records began. 8 Aug 1818, removed to Robin Hoods Bay, Yorkshire He was supposed to have gone to Mundesley from Berwick but there is no record of his presence there. 23 Aug 1821 appointed Probationary Boatman at Mundesley, Norfolk 6 children were baptized under the name of Hanstey from 1811-21 in Lesbury Northumberland, a village next to Alemouth 30 Jul 1822 removed to St Osyth Tower, Essex as a Commissioned Boatman 7 Jan 1825 removed to Southsea Castle, Hampshire as Chief Boatman In 1825 he was known as William Marshall Hanstey and thereafter as William Marshall Reduced in rank to Commissioned Boatman in 1827 20 Feb 1827 removed to St Mawes, Cornwall as a Commissioned Boatman 15 Aug 1827 removed to Cliff Creek, Cliffe at Hoo, Isle of Grain, Kent as a Commissioned Boatman26 April 1828 removed to Bembridge, Isle of Wight,as a Commissioned Boatman 14 May 1829 removed to Freshwater, Isle of Wight, as a Commissioned Boatman 25 Mar 1836 removed to Wicklow Head, Ireland 14 Aug 1837 discharged I wonder why he was busted a rank. The name change may have come about because he was too good at his job!! I wonder if anybody can give me some information about Wiclow Coastguards and the station there in 1836 and whether there are nominal rolls. Thank you and best wishes Mark
