Galway Coastguards 1918
Mike Wells
I'm researching the sinking of Pretty Polly, a 19-ton fishing ketch, off Galway Bay on 31 May 1918. Records say the German submarine U-101 was responsible but some in Connemara say otherwise.
The wreck site is mapped as being miles offshore and not in/off Roundstone Bay as usually stated. This would have been out of sight of civilians ashore but might have been seen by a Coastguard with a good telescope.
Can anyone tell me whether Irish Coastguard reports were logged centrally and archived, and if so they would now be at Kew, and under what File number for May-June 1918? And what the weather and visibilty was on 31 May 1918 to the west of the Aran Islands?
