Hi, and welcome to the Forum. Your man first entered the Coast Guard Service in September 1833, having previously served on HMS Swallow, a packet-brig stationed in Falmouth that appears to have spent much of her time in the West Indies. At the time of his nomination (Nom. No. 4369) he was single. His first posting was to Casemates in Kent from where, on 22 May 1834 he was posted to Belfast. However it looks as if he never took up this posting, because it was amended to Bangor (ADM 175/16 pdf 499). Subseqently he was moved to to Ardmore (ADM 175/18 pdf 373) on 17 June 1838, from where he was discharged on an allowance on 30 June 1857 (ADM 175/19 pdf 78). Additionally, during the Crimean War he was one of the CG who served in the Baltic Fleet aboard HMS Royal George, for which he was awarded the Baltic Medal. According to the info I have he was born in St Mawes around 1810. Regards Martin |
