New Thread started; original thread posted by Cliffside. I am interested in Francis Ellis as I am researching another senior Coastguard officer, who was commander of coastguards at Cromer, in Norfolk. The house I am in the process of buying was at the time called Exton House and was the senior officer's residence. further down the road, The Gangway, the former granary was converted to coastguard cottages some time around or prior to 1775 when the railway arrived at Cromer. Prior to then coal came down fro the north by ships which beached on an ebb tide, offloaded and returned with grain for ballast. Were these two Ellis related? Regards Richard |

Hi Richard I don't know if you have seen it, but there is a photograph of Francis Ellis in the 'Gallery' section of the site. From the medals on his chest he appears to have served during the Crimean War, earning the Baltic and Crimea Medals, as well as the 2nd China War. You appear to be trying to make a connection between two Ellis', but have not provided the name of the second, or the likely dates of service, so it is a little difficult to help.
