As I reside in Australia and unable to visit the TNA I have learnt so much from Martin and this great site. For a long time now I have been unable to find the marriage of my great grandparents Charles Jeffery and Elizabeth Ann Beer. I have read that marriage records are held by the Royal Navy/Coastguard and I was wondering how complete these records are and how difficult it would be to obtain them. [family lore states they were married in Penzance although no English Marriage record appears to exist] Charles joined the RN on 4/7/1853 onboard the "Sybille" and fought in the 2nd China War before being paid off on 13/5/1858. He rejoined on 3/2/1859 [CS 12067A] onboard the "Termagant" before transferring to the Coastguard on 18/2/1863. His 1st station was Rush [Dublin] where his 1st child was born. His last station was Dunfanaghy [Donegal] where he was pensioned off on 4/8/1887. He died in Dunfanaghy on 11/4/1913. He was listed as being married in the English 1861 Census onboard the "Termagant" in Mexico. The Irish 1911 Census for Dunfanaghy shows he was married in 1860 [the "Termagant" was in Canada during 1860] Any guidance or help would be truly appreciated. Thanks Jeff. |
