Hi, Whilst researching my husband's Grandfather Joseph Lydon (Coastguard 1905 - 1923) info. found in the N A. I have discovered that Great Grandfather was also a Coastguard Officer, info on Joseph's Marriage certificate states 'Father Michael Lydon, Coastguard Officer,Deceased', That was in 1892, but I haven't been able to find anymore about Michael Lydon, I know that Joseph was born in Galway in 1869, I have no birth or death dates for Michael, and would love to find out about his Coastguard life, any help or guidance please, would be much appreciated. I believe that Joseph Lydon received a Commendation during his career, where would I find details of this (if true) as there was nothing mentioned in the N Archives. Many thanks ceeKayL |

Hi, and welcome to the Forum. I've had no luck in finding Michael Lydon (Lyden) in the CG records, but I will keep looking. With Joseph I had more success. In ADM 175/83A there is a record card for him that includes the following comment ' A letter of thanks from the Air(?) Council of 7th February 1921'. Unfortunately there is no indication as to what he did to receive their thanks. In addition to this note there were also listed the sex and dates of birth of his eight children. This file can be downloaded for free from the NA website, but be warned it is 444MB. However, I have saved his record and would be more than happy to email it to your private email address, just PM me. Regards Martin |
