Martin, Is there any record of Gt Gradfather James Lyons( b 1813 d1885) being in the coastguard service? It appears that it was common for marriages to take place between members of families involved in the same trade or profession. His father was also James Lyons who died in 1822. Leslie |

Leslie Since James' marriage took place in 1859, if he was also in the CG Service I would have expected to find him stationed at, or close to, the same station as his future Father-in-Law. However, I have been unable to locate him. This does not mean that he was not a CG, he could be a crew member on one of the cruisers that regularly visited the stations. If you know a place and date where he stayed for sometime, I can check any local CG Stations in the area to see if he turns up. Martin |

Leslie I did find a James Lyons who entered the CG service from the Eliza on 2 October 1858, but when I traced his career he, and two other CGs, drowned on 28 November 1868, which does not fit the info you have. Martin |
