William Enright

William Enright shows on the census as being born in Ireland, how do I find out where? He married Mary Balcombe in 1829 in Newhaven, Sussex. I think that he was already in the Coastguard Service. He had 9 children, most of them were born in various costgard stations. I can track him from the 1841 census onwards, but it is his life pre 1841 that I am trying to find out about. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I would be very greatful.

Jacqueline Harvey.

Hi Jacqueline

Using the ADM 175 records I have traced Williams career from entry to the CG until 1841.

He joined the CG on 10 June 1831, nominated from London as Divisional Carpenter and Boatman at Spittal CGS. He was transferred from there to Kessingland on the 8 April 1835, when promoted to Commissoned Boatman.

It was on 7 June 1841 that he was removed to St Osyths Tower, near Clacton.

I had hoped that he might have entered from the Royal Navy, with his last ship being named, this would have given you another possible approach to finding where in Ireland he was born, but unfortunately not.

Martin
