Hi All I am a new member of the site but have many years interest in the coastguard. My interest is not in genealogy but rather the history of two coastguard stations, namely Dunany Point and Annagassan both in County Louth. The former was a station and the second a detatchment according to the 1897 Coastguard map which is on the site. I have quite a lot of information on the names of some of those that served in both stations from your excellent site. My main interest is in how the Coastguard recorded their day to day activities. In other words I would like to know if stations kept a daily or weekly logbook, diary or other method of recording station events and activities or if there are any inspection reports on these stations available and where. I notice that most queries relate to those serving in stations for family history purposes but my interest is in the activities going on in the locality of each station. I am interested in the full duration of the existence of each station but particularly in the 1916 to 1921 period. Can anyone please advise where I might find log books, inspection reports or other useful information on both the stations mentioned? Many thanks to Tony for his assistance and help with earlier e-mail queries and congrats to all on a fabulous resource for all of us interested in the Coastguard Gerry |

Hi Martin Thank you for the article. I had'nt seen it and gives a very interesting account. I wonder did any of the Dunany or Annagassan Station staff keep diaries or write memoirs? In addition to any formal records of the sort I am looking for these personal accounts are very telling about everyday life of coastguards and their families. Many thanks again for you help. Gerry |
