Firstly can I wish everyone a Happy New Year. This may be old news, but I’ve only just discovered that the INDEXES to the service records held in the ADM 139 series of documents, for seamen who signed up for Continuous Service between 1853 and 1872, are now available to download, for free, from the National Archives website. I know that some of these early service records are currently available from the NA using their ‘Service Records’ search facility. However, there is still a substantial number missing, and it may be some time before the NA have all these available online. So if you had an ancestor who left the Coast Guard prior to 1873, but who originally joined the service from the Royal Navy, these may well be worth a look. Regards Martin |
