James AUST ( as distinct from OST)
kilmeny
Having hit a brick wall with info on the dob of my James Ost ,CG...........I am trying a new tack. As the surname is often written according to the dialect in which it's spoken I wonder whether he might appear in any naval or CG records as AUST. He had several children in the 1820s, so I presume he could have been born as late as 1800. There was a James Aust bap. in Corsham, Wilts, in 1784, and an AUSTE bap. in Upottery, Devon in 1794. Neither place is too far from the sea , so life as a mariner could have been a possibility.

If any readers have come across this man's name in your genealogical travels, please do tell me....all I need is one vital clue.( Please read my posting for James Ost, to fill you in !)

Many thanks for all the help I've recd. so far.........Kilmeny
