Hello, I've had a good look at your site and am quite impressed. Good job. I'm wondering if someone could please point me in the right direction regarding where to start looking for information on my GG Grandfather who was a coastguard. Unfortunately I have very little information. My G Gfathers marriage cert (1895 London) states his Father was William Connelly and he was a Coast Guard Pensioner. Thanks, Adam |

Hi Adam, and welcome to the Forum. In an effort to perhaps give you somewhere to start I looked at the sources I would normally consult first, but without any success. So I would start with the records of Seamans Service available online at the National Archives. The majority of those records currently available cover service from 1873, but given the date you are starting with this this should be ok. I have put a link to the search results I had for William Connelly. The date under the 'Date' column is a date of birth, so this will narrow down your search, and if you have a place of birth it becomes even easier. Otherwise, its a case of downloading likely men at £3.50 each, and hoping some other information you have helps you identify your man. e.g. your Gfathers place of birth. http://www.nation...diaarray=* Regards Martin Edited by crimea1854 on 25/06/2009 07:11 |
