Can someone tell me in easy plain english how to find my ancestors record: William Lamble (Lambell) Roberts born 1809 Plymouth, UK, buried Holywood, Co. Down 1881. He was on Archill Island in 1834/6 I have tried following the links given to Govt Archive sites etc but it is all rather bewildering. He was harbour master in Bangor in 1880 so would there be records there somewhere? I have a painting of him in his blue uniform. Does anyone know of others? It may have been done in Belfast? thank you very much for reading this, even if you can't help, Lara-may |

Many coastguards were originally in the Royal Navy. My own Chief Officer ancestor started out as a boy in the Navy. Try looking for your ancestor here http://www.nation...ntsonline/. I downoaded the full service record for my ancestor from there.![]() |
