I would like to ask for help in finding records or information about Michael Power (1821 – 1890). I wonder if he appears alongside other coastguards in Ireland prior to 1851. He is in the England census in 1851, 1871 and 1881 but not in 1861. He is from Waterford and appears in the England census in 1851 at Ramsgate, Kent with his wife Catherine (1823 – 1899) and there are four children. The first three (Edward 1842, Mary Ann 1844 and Margaret 1847) are born in Waterford but the youngest (Mary Catherine) is born in 1850 at Ramsgate, so it would appear that the family may have arrived in England in about 1849? In England he is at Ramsgate, Thanet. Also Oldstairs in the same Thanet area and one of the census entries states Kessingland in Suffolk as well. I’m tempted to think that Michael may well have had brothers, as there are quite a few Powers of roughly his age from Waterford that appear in the England census’s but I’ve not looked into that area yet. |
