Hi all, I have some more information about our premises. It is known as the old coastguard boathouse and was built between 1860 and 1880 not sure of exact date yet. It was sold to the local town council by the coastguard service in 1904. I have found a number of photos of the boathouse dating from the earlier 1800s to today. I would like to find a photo of one of the original coastguards outside the premises. If anyone out there has any more information please post. Regards Paul. |

Hello Paul, The National Archives in Dublin have Office of Public Works in Dublin have a number of contract drawings to build a new Coastguard Station and boathouse between 1869 and 1875. O.P.W.Notes. BRAY COASTGUARD STATION Lease ground and buildings occupied by Coastguards 1823 for 60 years Boathouse built by Dublin Board of Works in 1870. Officers house and 5 cottages erected by Dublin Board of Works in 1875. It would appear that the boathouse on the beach was an earlier structure and, may or may not, have continued to be used by the Coastguard service. Regards Tony |
