Millisle coastguard Station
hendy
Hi,
great site. Looking through the details of old stations I noticed Millisle is listed.
There isn't and never has been a station in Millisle.
The station in question is situated at Ballyhaskin and still exists, Ballyhaskin lies about 1.5 miles south of Millisle.
It is now known as Coastguard Cottages and my brother occupies the Tower.
I read the article on Lt Seacole and knew of him before this as my brother had done a little research as the place is haunted .
A Guitar flying off a shelf just a couple of weeks ago was the latest incident'
A previous incident was a toasting fork flying across the living room at the top of the Tower.
I will post a photograph of the Tower soon.

Hi Hendy
Re. your comments on Millisle coastguard station.
It was quite common for the Customs to name a station after a local town or well known promentary. For instance Groomsport sation was in Ballymacormick townland and for many years the station at Whitehead was listed as Blackhead station.
The station at Millisle was established at Basllyhaskin in 1821 and the watch house to the north of the Admiralty terrace was built shortly after to the same design as the watch houses at Groomsport and Portmuck. Part of a wall from the original house is incorporated into the present dwelling. The terrace was built in 1874/5.

Curiously a coastguard station is marked in Millisle town on the 1886 revision of an Admiralty chart of the coast from Carlingford Lough to Larne, originally surveyed by Hoskyn Masters in 1857-61.

I wonder could the haunting of the tower could be related to the murder of the officer in charge.

Best wishes
