Coastguard death 1905

Hello. I wonder if anyone can help? I'm researching the death of my great grandfather, Joseph Thompson. He apparently died whilst on duty at Mulroy coastguard station, Rosapenna, Co. Donegal. The death record states he committed suicide (revolver shot) . Date of death 6th July 1905. I would dearly love to find out more information. Thank you.
