Hi I'm trying to find as much detail as I can about a John Rochford but I can seem to find where he was nominated from. I can see he was removed from Islandmore on 11 Dec 1831 and then appeared to be removed to "Recorders Inay" on 28 Sept 1842, but I also found a John Rochford removed from Cowes 25/3/1836 and on 11 Dec 1839 removed to Casleh Bay (?) for Punishment. Maybe there are two John Rochfords ? Can anyone help ? Thanks Peter |

Hi Peter I can confirm that they are one and the same man. Using the Establishment Books I have traced his entire career in the CG Service. First nominated to Newtown CGS from Hythe on 8 April 1831 (ADM 175/6 pdf 317) from where he made the following moves: 18 Feb 1835 to Shanklin (175/6 - 305) 11 Feb 1835 to Cowes 25 March 1836 to Islandmore (Innisgowla) (175/18 - 224) 11 Dec 1839 to Casleh Bay 28 Sept 1842 to Recorders Quay (175/18 - 198) 24 August 1856 to Ardfry (175/18 - 218) Died 1 Dec 1861 (175/19 214). I also checked to see if he had been issued with a Seamen's Ticket. Although I did not find one for him, I did find a John Rochford, born 4 Oct 1836 Sandown, who gave his usual place of residence as Galway (1849), so my guess this is a son. Martin |
