Since you haven;t provided any more info compared to your first post - you should look in the standard places such as genuki which has about 8 William Stewart but many dates are not a match. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/Coastguards/S.html Also try the UK Archives - you would need to supply dates to reduce possibilities. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/search-results.asp?searchType=powersearch&mediaarray=*&first_date=17800101&last_date=18401231&CatID=15&pageCount=3&query=first_name%3Dwilliam|last_name%3Dstewart&queryType=1&pageNumber=3&sortSpec=first_date+desc |

Gordon I think your best bet is to download the ADM 175/97 and 98 files from the National Archives website. These are indexes of men entering the CG Service, from this you will be able to identify all those men named William Stuart who entered the CG Service. It is then a case of downloading the relevant files to trace their individual careers. While I'm more than happy to undertake this exercise, it has to be with an expectation that I have the right man, because in some instances it can take a couple of hours to trace a mans movements. This is why some additional information is essential i.e. where a child was born, and a year, to act as a starting point for any search. I wish you luck with your research. Martin |
