Hi, I am trying to research my husbands Great Grandad and would appreciate any help and guidance you can give,The information i have is Frederick William Cole born 3rd Dec 1874,joined royal Navy at 16 on HMS Impegnable,I have details of the ships he served on but not where they went or any other details about them.I have a note on 1st MAY 1902 changed to vessel (i think it says) Melampus as a coast guard ,we where told that he spent some time in Ireland but do not know where.I do have a 'certificate of service' letter but that only states from 1919 to1923. We would be really interested to know what he did during WW1 if that information is available anywhere. He was also qualified as a diver. His official no was 154460 can you help with any thing? regards Julie |

Welcome to the Forum Julie. I have found Cole's CG Service record in ADM 175/82A (pages 869 & 870 of 1093). You could download this from the National Archives website, but be warned this is an extremely large file (457MB ). Alternatively I copied and saved the records as word documents, so if you email me with your private email address I will send them to you as attachments. This record has details of his postings as well as some personal details. On the question of where particular ships were at a specific time, you would need to go to the NA at Kew and look at each ship's Log Book. Regards Martin Edited by crimea1854 on 20/01/2010 22:14 |
