First of all thank you for a super website, so informative. I wonder maybe someone can help me find out how Daniel died. Daniel Morrison was born 1817 in Portsea, Hamps. Joining the Navy in 1836 and later the coatguards. I found his record of service in ADM 38/7221 at the National Archives and it wold seem he spent most of the time in Ireland. From 1854 till 1856 he served on HMS Caesar in the Crimean War. Didn't know about the Baltic Medal something else I learned from your website. A lead led me to transcriptions of gravestones in Ireland (White Church, Milltown) and while i was looking for Daniel Morrison I found his wife Jane Sophia, who I was totally unaware, died at the age of 32 years(1849). I know that he had two children at that time so would think he must have remarried. Reading articles and information I looked at ADM175/102 Discharges and found that Daniel, stationed at Brandon, had been Discharged Dead 4th December 1867. Has anyone come across any information which may lead me on.... How do I find out what happened? I should be so grateful Many thanks Chris Wells |

Thanks to your help on this site I applied, and have just received the Death Certificate of my 3x great grandfather Daniel Morrison, Chief Boatman in charge of Coastguard Station. Unsure whether in 1867 he was in charge of Brandon or Castlegregory station. His death occured on 4th December 1867 at Clagharee (Clugharee?) in the district of Castlegregory. Cause of death 'killed by a cart overturning on him 15 minutes. Certified'. The certificate shows he was married which means he had remarried following the death of his first wife in 1849. So who was she?? Have now to find where he was buried and which coastguard station.... more details............so exciting....... |

The http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html is great for Kerry Church records which are missing from the http://brsgenealogy.com site. In the IrishGenealogy site there is a record of a Daniel Morrison marrying Elizabeth Trigurtha in 1851 in parish of KIlcoman but there are no corroborating details of witness/parents to help. The other occurrances of Trigurtha are in Dingle. Edited by bpa on 13/12/2009 20:34 |

The same website shows two baptisms of interest. The first is of a Henry T. Morrison of Calinafercy (baptised in the parish of Kilcoman), 11th October 1849, father Daniel, but mother not recorded. The second is of Agnes Morrison of Calinafercy (baptised in the parish of Kilcoman), 26th December 1851, to Daniel and Elizabeth Morrison. I'm afraid that my Irish geography is not good enough to tell me just where Calinafercy is, but these two baptisms appear to be to the Daniel Morrison who married Elizabeth Trigurtha. The first child mentioned is presumably the child of a previous marriage, which circumstantially fits your man. (Edit) It also fits the information in the cemetery records concerning Jane Sophia, wife of Daniel Morrison, coastguard of Callinafercy. Jane Sophia died in March 1849. (Edit) I find that Irish Genealogy web-site somewhat confusing. It's somewhat odd that the "Central Signposting Index" does not seem to include the Kerry church records on the same site! To find place names I used the official site http://www.logainm.ie but I find no record of Callinafercy in it. I couldn't find it in the griffiths valuation http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=placeSearch nor in the 1854 OS maps for Kilcoman that are accessed through the griffith site. I think the irishgenealogy "signposting" is an attempt to consolidate results of a search with similar terms from a number of different database - this sort of consolidation usually misses some matches. So I first try the "church" records directly and then the "signpost" to see if any elses appears. edit: There is another Kilcoman just outside Miltown, Kerry which is NE of Killorglin and closer to Dingle than the "other" Kilcoman I found. Also between Kilcoman and Killorglin there is a townland Callanafersy in the parish of Kilcoman. New search on Griffiths valuation In Callanafersy West - there is a Daniel Morrisson in plot 4a which can be found on the OS map. http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&PlaceID=614307&county=Kerry&barony=Trughanacmy&parish=Kilcolman&townland=Callanafersy,%20west Edited by bpa on 13/12/2009 20:31 |

Thanks for all the information that is being passed through this website. I never thought the Griffith Valuations would be of any use as I believed he would be in 'coastguard accommodation'. Thank you. |

Hi My Gt Gt Grandfather was Thomas Tregurtha of Paul in Cornwall. He was in the coastguard service in Dingle in Kerry. His daughter is Elizabeth Rebecca. This is Elizabeth who married your Daniel, son of Angus. I have marriage of Daniel to Jane Sophia Fordham as being in 1844 at St Georges in East London. I would very interested to find out more. Hi Dominic, and welcome to the Forum. When you say you would like to know more, I wondered what you already had, and what you were after? Martin |

I am sure you have read the other posts so know the details of them both. I found Elizabeth in the 1881 census living at Devonport, Plymouth with Elizabeth her daughter and Maud and grandson Frederick G Jory. My email address is: cornishbliss@mypostoffice.co.uk Look forwad to hearing from you again Kind regards Christine Wells Edited by cornishbliss on 08/12/2011 17:25 |
