My Great Grandfather John Angus was skipper of a 3-masted ship, also he and his family ran a Chandlers in Howth,North Dublin, Ireland. They lived at 1, Hillside Terrace, which John Angus had built, now known as Thormanby Road, Howth Could anyone tell me the name of John Angus's ship and where she sailed to and from, and what she carried. John's son, John junior (Known as Jack) was coxswain of the Howth Lifeboat for 30 years, the longest serving coxswain they have had, does anyone remember him ?? Does anyone remember any of the ANGUS family. Also does anyone have any information about my Great Uncle, Doctor William Angus, MD. Physician/Surgeon. who married a Margaret Hasley and they lived at Columba House, Abbey Street, Howth. I just can't find out anything about him anywhere except what I have just written about him. please help. Thanks. Heather |

Welcome to the Forum Heather. I don't know if this is your man, but there was a John Angus, born Dublin 1825 who had his Masters Certificate issued in Dublin in 1863 (Certificate Number C12841), and who appears in Lloyds Register Vol.1 1864. The Register can be seen at the Guild Hall Library, London. If this is your man it would be worth either visiting the Caird Library at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, which hold the original certificates, or contacting them and asking for a copy, for which they charge. Regards Martin |
