Teelin Coastgard Station
Seamus
My greatgrandfather Patrick Boyle and Grandfather John Boyle thought the children of the coastgard station at the Teelin National School. The coastgard station was on Boyle land before it was burnt down. I'm wondering is there any documents or information of any interaction between these men and the men/children of the coastguard station. I would really appreciate it.

Please e-mail seamusoboyle@yahoo.com or reply to this posting here.

Kind Regards

Hello Seamus,

The name Boyle jogged my memory, and perhaps you can help me. I'm looking for info regarding a UNITY BOYLE who married a William Brown(e) in 1785 in Drumholme parish Church, in Co. Donegal. They are direct ancestors of our family, whom I am researching.
I have no knowledge at all. of the Boyle family , as I have only recently found this generation. William Brown ( born in 1755 in Rathneeny) might well have been in the Coastguard service, and his son John was, along with quite a few more descendants.
Thank you for any Boyle info you might be able to share.......Kilmeny

I dont think any of my family worked as lifeguards. They were headmasters of the Teelin National schlool from about 1860-1960. There are records of the coastguards commenting on the standard of education their children were recieving. This is what I'm interested in. Also I'm interested to a lesser extent in the events of 1920-1923 at the station.

Thanks for your reply Seamus, but forget about the Coastguard bit, in relation to the Boyles.

Have you researched this family BEFORE the 1860s? I have just checked maps etc. and Teelin is in just the right area for there to have been some connection between my Unity Boyle , and your Boyles later on. Have you ever come across her name?....were there any other Boyles called Unity, in later generations ??

I still hope you'll be able to help!
Many thanks....Kilmeny

I have got back as far as my great grandfather Patrick born about 1830. After that I am hitting a blank wall. But I am going to visit one of my Aunts soon. She is 88yrs old and may remember some more details. And I have heard the name Unity before. I think it is one of my aunts second names. I'll see what I can dig up. The only thing is though that that Patrick (or his father) came from Ardara. I know that very far back the Boyle side originated in Ardara.

I will clutch at ANY straws, Seamus, so thanks again for any Boyle info. I haven't heard mention of Ardara, so far in our family.......but then, I hadn't heard of the Boyle connection until recently. This is all new ground for me.
Looking at Google maps it would appear that Ardara was not very far inland.......so , perhaps some of the Boyles might have been mariners early on ?

The name Unity has not been used for any of her direct descendants, on our line, except that UNA was the name given to a Gt x ?? grandaughter in around 1900, in London. This might just be a coincidence, but could be in memory of an ancestor. So for you to recognise it gives me hope, as it's not a common name.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your aunt has a good memory !Thanks......Kilmeny

Seamus
Now Una is a very common name in our family (and the English varient Agnes). Are there any Winifred's in your family ? Thats an old name that runs through our family and would have been very unususl in Ireland.

By the way all the graves in the Carrick graveyard have been documented and are online, use this link http://www.carrickonline.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=61 it may help. There is another Boyle family in Teelin the
Teelin 6662.htm. 6448 6449 6641 and O'Boyle 6261 are all my family.

Seamus
I'm also looking for any information on a Denis Mc Carthy (coastguard) who was married to an Agnes Boyle (my great aunt). Multiple postings around the country, one of which was in Ballywater Town, Down. Also James John Mc Ginley (coastguard) who was married to Margeret Heekin (my great aunt).
