I have an ancestor called William Perrott Thompson who I believe was born in Westminster, London, he served in several stations in England and Scotland from about 1800 until 1857. We know from family history that he served in Whitehaven around 1810 until 1820 and in Alnmouth Northumberland about 1821 then in Johnshaven Kincardineshire until he died in 1857. We have a family bible with the births of his children which tell us where they were baptized and couldnt understand why he moved around so much until we found out from the census records that he was a chief boatman in 1841 then the penny dropped. I believe his son Robert was also in the excise and served in North Shields in the late 1800's. I know that this is not in your area but if anyone can point me in the right direction for information on his service etc I would be most grateful. Your site is great and I have enjoyed reading through the information on offer. whyayacca |
