I can't add a great deal more to the information you have, but there is a service record for him in ADM 188, downloadable from the National Archives website for a small fee, or on Ancestry if you have a subscription. It's very brief but does provide a physical description including details of tattoos.

Although I no longer have a subscription to Find my Past, there do appear to be a couple of records linked to a Merchant Seaman's Ticket, could be worth a look.

Ken,

My sister discovered your entry above.

Our great grandmother, my father's mother's mother was Adela Murton.

She married Robert Hilary Bell who served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry mainly based in Plymouth, England. He later served in the Royal Naval Reserve in WWI seeing action at Antwerp and Gallipoli. I have some photos of her.

Thank you John

I have already captured Adela's birth year as 1865 and she was born to James Murton's first wife. Emma Channon.
Her half brother Alfred Astley Cooper Murton was born in 1875 to his second wife, Elizabeth Bellinger, after Emma's death in 1870.
I have not carried out any further research on Emma as she is not part of my lineage.
I am still stuck on the forebears of my great great grandfather James Murton who was born in Tregony, Cornwall in Jan 1824.

Regards

Ken
