Hello, Christmas time is the time to have a go at finding ancestors but this is one that has me stumped for a few years now. My Great Great Grandfather (Hugh Donovan) retired from Upper Cove, Kinsale station as a Permanent Extra Man on the 30 June 1857. However, his nomination does not appear in ADM 175/99 as far as I can see. I guess that means his nomination must have been before 1821 or after 1829. There are some establishment lists available for Upper Cove but none appear to cover the dates that he was supposed to be there. He was born in Kinsale sometime between 1808 and 1815 (based on his marriage record) and may have been a 'shipowner' after he retired. He seems to have died in 1878 John D

John I'm afraid as an Extraman he was not formally on the Coastguard establishment, so it is unlikely that you will find any further records in the CG Books. Martin |

Hi Martin, That is disappointing, the family seem to have vanished without trace apart from one son who was still there in 1901. John D
