Hi, I am trying to trace the career of my wife's uncle's grandfather, Frederick Dodridge. He was either a chief boatman or a chief officer and died at New Quay in 1907. In 1901 he was at Kerry Head but I know nothing else except that he was from Devon originally. He would have been about 51 when he died. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Bobby |

Bobby For the time period you are interested in your best bet is the Naval Service Records from the National Archives. I've had a look and there are two available for a Frederick Dodridge born Stoke Damerel, Devon, 1855, which seems to fit the information provided. There are two because one is his pre and the other post 1873 service. My advice would be to order the ADM 188 document first to check that you have the right man - this is his post 1873 service, if you have then order the other. http://discovery....mage1.y=16 In the 1907 Navy List is an obituary notice for Chief Officer of the Coast Guard Frederick Doderidge 9 February 1907. Hi Bobby, I've been doing research into Frederick Dodridge. I know he came from Devon originally, but trying to trace the later years at the moment. My husband found some Dodridge graves in Co. Donegal of a young Dodridge child, but haven't been able to work out so far if it is related. There are Dodridge's in NI which seem to be related to Frederick Dodridge and I am trying to find the link and piece together what I have found online and what I have been told! I don't suppose you know how Frederick ended up in County Antrim? There is a grave in Carnmoney Cemetery with his name on it and a few others. My husband's Granda, Tommy, made reference to Frederick a few times but he has sadly passed away so we can't get any more info. Sorry for resurrecting an old post but more information would really help, thanks! Ruth p.s. I have purchased Frederick's naval history and been working my way through the online census resources trying to piece it all together Ruth
