Ann Armed with a date I was able to find Henry. According to his CG record he was born in Eastmain, Hampshire in May 1838. From this information I checked the service records at the NA, and found an entry confirming his place of birth, but additionally giving the date as the 18th May 1838. This record can be downloaded: http://www.nation...ltcount=10 In the 1870's he was sationed at Crookhaven CG Station, from where he was invalided on 22 Nov 1872. All the best. Martin |

Hello Ann, As a matter of interest have you looked at British Coastguards 1841-1891 ?. It is a Census Records site and contains four Coast Guard Merritt families. There could be a family connection somewhere. Regards Tony |
